Supporting Circularity in Practice: Why the PRS Return System Is Vital to Umaras

2026 January 20

At Umaras, sustainability is an active practice, not a passive slogan. Our daily decisions reflect our commitment to environmental responsibility, resource efficiency, and the principles of the circular economy. Initiatives like the PRS Return System and the PRS Green Label are core to our identity and direction more than 10 years.

What is the PRS Return System?

The PRS Return System, operated by PRS Pooling, is one of Europe’s long-standing circular solutions focused on reducing waste and emissions across supply chains. In practice, this means that:

1. PRS supplies reusable pallets (recognizable by their green edges) for transporting polymer products.
2. After use, these pallets are collected, repaired if necessary, and returned to the next customer for reuse — rather than being discarded.

This model keeps valuable materials in circulation, reduces the need for new pallets, and lowers carbon emissions associated with single-use alternatives.

The PRS Green Label: Recognition for Real Impact

To recognize partners that actively support pallet reuse and contribute to the success of this circular pooling model, the PRS Green Label initiative was established. Partners who achieve a high pallet recovery rate (of at least 65 %) are awarded this label for their measurable contributions to sustainability.

It’s not just a badge—it’s a symbol of significant contributions  to the circular economy, a system that reduces waste, lowers emissions, conserves resources, and supports environmental goals across the industry.

Why Is This Critical to Umaras?

For Umaras, a partner-focused business deeply committed to clear environmental impact, the PRS Return System resonates strongly with our sustainability ethos. We believe that true environmental leadership means choosing and supporting systems that deliver measurable benefits—not only for our operations, but for the entire value chain.

By participating in and supporting initiatives such as the PRS pooling mode, we:
1. Contribute to reducing waste and carbon emissions across logistics and transport stages;
2. Support reuse over single-use practices wherever feasible;
3. Demonstrate real, collaborative contributions to circular economy practices.

What This Means for Our Industry

The success of pooling systems like PRS shows that the plastics industry can be part of the solution, not the problem. By keeping pallets in active reuse and diverting them from disposal, the industry contributes to reduced extraction of raw materials, less waste sent to landfills, and more sustainable logistics.
Partners that receive the PRS Green Label are recognized for these very outcomes—tangible steps toward a more sustainable future.

Umaras: Committed to Action, Not Just Words

At Umaras, sustainability is not a checkbox; it is a strategic choice. We engage with initiatives that help deliver measurable results for our partners and for the environment. Supporting collaborative systems like the PRS Return System complements our own sustainability roadmap and confirms our belief that progress happens when companies work together, not in isolation.
We are proud to follow and support circular models that bring real environmental benefits today and greater resilience tomorrow.

Smart, flexible packaging for better business.
